PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inkjet recording apparatus and a recording method for maintaining fineness characteristics of a recorded image and simultaneously capable of recording characters and line drawings with high density and quality. SOLUTION: The inkjet recording apparatus comprises an edge detection unit for detecting an edge portion and a non-edge portion of image data, a plurality of edge portion thinning masks for thinning image data on the edge portion, and a memory for storing a plurality of non-edge portion thinning masks for thinning image data on the non-edge portion. The recording method comprises producing a plurality of edge portion thinning data using the plurality of edge portion thinning masks for the image data on the edge portion, producing a plurality of non-edge portion thinning data using the plurality of non-edge portion thinning masks for the image data on the non-edge portion, and producing a plurality of recording data by synthesizing the plurality of edge portion thinning data and the plurality of non-edge portion thinning data.
