PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing a polyester composition suitable for producing thick films containing a little amount of oligomers. SOLUTION: The method for producing the polyester composition (B) having an intrinsic viscosity and an amount of polymer powder suitable for producing the films and containing a little amount of oligomers is to prepare a polyester composition (A) from a dicarboxylic acid component comprising terephthalic acid or its ester forming derivative and a diol component comprising ethylene glycol as main ingredients, heat treat the composition (A) at 205-235°C by circulating a heated inert gas in a vertical fluidized heat treatment apparatus having an agitator.
