A fingerprint image acquiring device (10) is disclosed. The device (10) comprises a plurality of discrete fingerprint scanners (14, 16) arranged substantially side by side for simultaneously obtaining fingerprint images of at least two fingers (18, 20). In an example embodiment, the device (10) comprises two fingerprint scanners (14, 16), one for scanning a finger and the other for scanning either an adjacent finger or a thumb. In this embodiment, the two fingerprint scanners may be arranged back to back, for simultaneously scanning an index finger and a thumb. In an alternate example embodiment, the device comprises four fingerprint scanners arranged side by side, for allowing up to four fingerprint images to be scanned simultaneously, corresponding to the little, ring, middle and index fingers. |
