PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recognize a cartridge for holding a recording medium stored in a library device in a short time. SOLUTION: A sensor 6 installed to a holding mechanism fetches information on the cartridge 1 from an RFID chip attached to the cartridge 1 when holding the cartridge 1, communicates with a semiconductor chip 2 fitted to a storage rack 1, and holds the information on the cartridge in the semiconductor chip 2. Alternatively, the sensor 6 receives information inside the semiconductor chip 2, so that a state of the stored cartridge can be acquired in a short time. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
