PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader, capable of detecting correct setting of an image sensor without an additional position detecting sensor. SOLUTION: The image reader including an image sensor 20 disposed detachably in a predetermined reading position opposed to an object of reading. One scanning directional end side 25a of the image sensor 20 is rotatably supported, and the image sensor 20 is removed from a surface 13a of reading object by being rotated with the one end side 25a as a fulcrum. A determination means 29 determines that the image sensor 20 is correctly set in the reading position when a detection output reading a predetermined area on the scanning directional opposite side to the fulcrum of detection outputs from the image sensor 20 is a set level or more.
