PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image generation device and method, wherein increase of a calculation amount is suppressed and wherein a high-resolution distance image is achieved. SOLUTION: This image generation device has: at least two imaging means 11, 12 each imaging an imaging object 2 to generate image data, each disposed in a different position; a correlation detection means 17 comparing the image data generated by the imaging means 11, 12 on epipolar lines determined by connecting correspondence points to view lines connecting the positions of the respective imaging means 11, 12 and a position of the imaging object 2 to detect a discrete correlation value; a correlation interpolation means 20 interpolating the discrete correlation value detected by the correlation detection means 17 on the basis of a plurality of different interpolation means; and a distance image generation means 10 generating the distance image showing a distance between the imaging means 11, 12 and the imaging object 2 on the basis of the interpolation correlation value interpolated by the correlation interpolation means 20.
