PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for accurately and simply classifying genotype of hepatitis C virus (HCV) based on a unified international classification. SOLUTION: An oligonucleotide group having a specific base sequence derived from HCV and an oligonucleotide group having base sequence complementary to the base sequence are provided. And a primer for discriminating HCV genotype comprises these oligonucleotides. Further, a method for discriminating genotype of hepatitis C virus, comprising a step for synthesizing cDNA by using HCV genome in a specimen or a part of the genome as a template, and a step of performing PCR using the cDNA as a template and also using one of the oligonucleotides as a primer to detect amplified DNA, is provided.
