PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus and an image sensor for performing color imaging by eliminating the problem of saturation of background light, the imaging apparatus and image sensor being increased in photodetection area by simplifying circuit constitution of each pixel part. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus divides a plurality of pixel parts PX into a plurality of groups corresponding to light emission colors of light emitting diodes LED. A light emission control signal generation section 4 generates light emission control signals (r), (g), and (b) set such that when each of signal levels is equal to or higher than a threshold value and when each of the signal levels is equal to or lower than the threshold value, time widths are equal and light emission quantities of other wavelengths are equal. A projection section 6 varies light emission quantities of the respective light emitting diodes LED according to the signal levels of the respective light emission control signals. Each of the pixel parts PX of the image sensor 5 accumulates electric charges corresponding to incident light including red light R, green light G, blue light B, and background light while alternating addition and subtraction with the light emission control signals (r), (g), and (b).
