PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem of the difficulty in accurately measuring a noise amount through the calculation of the noise amount on the basis of a difference between a preceding frame and a succeeding frame because the calculated value is reflected by the noise and the motion when measuring the noise amount of video signals in a video image region. SOLUTION: The noise amount measuring device provided with: a storage means for storing an input signal; a two-dimensional noise candidate detection means; and a means for detecting the correlation between the preceding and succeeding frames, measures the noise amount on the basis of a difference between image information of a noise candidate region extracted by the two-dimensional noise candidate detection means and image information of a region with a high correlation between the preceding and succeeding frames. Since wrong measurement caused by a motion can be prevented, the noise measurement accuracy is improved. Further, since the noise amount can be measured with high accuracy, the noise reduction effect can properly be adjusted. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
