PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite roll for rolling obtained by soundly joining an external layer having excellent wear resistance and roughening resistance and an internal layer having toughness at high strength, and to provide its production method. SOLUTION: The composite roll for rolling is obtained by joining an external layer in which MC carbides are dispersed in 20 to 60% by area ratio and formed by centrifugal casting, and a metallic internal layer by HIP (hot isostatic press) treatment. Further, in the structure of the external layer, the maximum inscribed circle diameter in a region not including MC carbides having a diameter equivalent to a circle of≥15μm does not exceed 150μm.
