PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods and devices that enable the use of functions of each computer from other computers in a computer system networking a plurality of computers, as solving the existing problem wherein expertise is required because device setting requires complicated procedures and service use requires service-specific procedures. SOLUTION: A client computer is provided with policy information and an autonomous configuration client, and server computers are each provided with server information and an autonomous configuration server. The policy information has information about necessary functions and about communication methods and application software corresponding to the functions. The client computer acquires any necessary function from the policy information and searches through the networked server computers, and the server computers respond with available functions. The autonomous configuration client exchanges setting information with a matching autonomous configuration server such that both autonomously set the communication method and application software, and the client computer uses the necessary function.
