The system has an ultrasonic measuring section (6) formed between two hydro-acoustic measuring devices (4, 5), where the section runs partially through a water body (1). Each device has an ultrasonic transmitter/receiver unit (4a, 5a) for transmitting/receiving ultrasonic measuring signals over the section. Each device has a transmitting/receiving unit (4c, 5c) for wirelessly exchanging of data signals between the devices over a set of data signal connections. Each device has a timer unit (4b, 5b) for wirelessly transmitting time signal for synchronizing the devices. An independent claim is also included for a method for measuring a flow of water in a water body with an ultrasonic flow measuring system.
