A liquid crystal display device and a driving method thereof are provided to remove a residual DC component in an LCD panel by periodically supplying different compensation voltages to a common voltage, thereby preventing afterimages. A liquid crystal display device includes an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) panel(100), a gate driver(60), a data driver(50), a common voltage generator(40), a common voltage compensator(30), and a timing controller(10). The gate driver and the data driver drive the LCD panel. The common voltage generator generates a common voltage and supplies the common voltage to the LCD panel. The common voltage compensator generates first and second compensation voltages, which have different levels from the common voltage, and supplies the compensation voltages to the common voltage generator. The timing controller supplies control signals to the gate driver, the data driver, and the common voltage compensator.
