An image acquiring device and method are provided to increase reliability of an image by selectively obtaining signals showing characteristic of a scanning object and reduce costs by reducing complexity of a vision system. An image acquiring device includes a sensor(310), a controller(320), a storage(330), an image output part(340), and a transfer part(350). The sensor is installed with a predetermined gap from an object(300) and has a plurality of belt-type line sensors which are arranged in parallel to a short side direction of a photographed area. The controller outputs a photographing signal to the sensor controlling to photograph the object whenever the object is transferred as a length of a short side of the photographed area of the line sensor. The storage stores an image signal outputted from each line sensor during transferring time of the object. The image output part outputs the image signal as an output signal of each line sensor. The image signal is determined by a predetermined image signal selection standard. The transfer part transfers the object as the length of the short side of the photographed area in the short side direction of the photographed area of the line sensor.
