<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer capable of switching a data format to be recognized by the printer on an as-needed basis and for example, hiding data in a specific format during ordinary use. <P>SOLUTION: When an operation switch is specifically operated such that the operation of the switch is not carried usually (S10), a printer is switched to a demo printing mode from a normal mode, and then a PRN file which has not been recognized until the specific operation is carried out, can be recognized. At that time, it is judged whether or not there is a specific file (the PRN file) in a memory card (S20). When there is, the specific file is read and the processing of printing is carried out according to the acquired PRN data.
