PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the fuel loss during halt or temperature raise after halting a heating furnace for heating for applying blooming to bloom, billet, slab, etc., or performing a bar steel and wire rod rolling. SOLUTION: When halting the heating furnace for 3 or more hours, when the last material to be heated just before stopping is passed through a heating zone, all burners are halted from firing. Then, when the temperature in the first half heating zone is lowered to 750-850°C and the temperature in the second half heating zone is lowered to 850-950°C, only the burners below a skid beam are fired to keep the temperature of the first half heating zone at 750-850°C and the temperature of the second half heating zone at 850-950°C. Thereafter, when the material to be heated is charged and heating is restarted, a necessary time necessary for the heating zone temperature to reach the heating setting temperature is presumed and respective upper part burners are fired earlier by the above necessary time, and thus the first half heating zone is started to raise the temperature so as to reach the heating-setting temperature and also, the second half heating zone is raised to the heating-setting temperature so as to match the timing at which the material to be heated reaches the second half heating zone.
