PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide satisfactory image reading, with a foreign body hardly attached to a contact glass, preventing the generation of crack noise caused by the foreign body. SOLUTION: An image reading device 40A includes an automatic manuscript processing unit 40 for feeding a manuscript G, an image reading section 3 for reading the image of the manuscript G, and a transparent contact glass 102 being disposed between the image reading section 3 and the fed manuscript G at an image reading position, so as to flatten the portion of reading the image of the fed manuscript G, and thereby the image of the fed manuscript G is read by the image reading section 3. As the manuscript G is conveyed, the portion of the above contact glass 102 facing opposite to the manuscript G at the image reading position is shifted. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
