PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new door closer which prevents a door itself or a wall from being damaged due to a door stop or the like, does not incur convenience of door opening operation, and can suitably adjust a back checking force. SOLUTION: A control mechanism 20 of the door closer 10 is provided with two oil grooves along an oil chamber 12, i.e. a first oil groove 21 and a second oil groove 31. The first oil groove 21 has three oil leading holes 22, 23, 24 formed therein and the second oil groove 31 has two oil leading holes 32, 33 formed therein. By adjusting setting locations of the five oil leading holes and a closing order of the same by a piston 13, the back check force can be adjusted in multiple stages. Alternatively by variously designing the shape of each oil leading hole or by forming a plurality of steps in the oil chamber 12, the door closer can achieve similar adjustment even if it has a single oil groove.
