Luer assemblies (10) are provided having first and second connectors (20, 40) operatively coupled and securing tails (72, 74) of a proximal end section (63) of a catheter (60) disposed therebetween. A method (200) for cutting a proximal end section (63) of a catheter (60) having distal and proximal ends (61, 63) is provided, a slit (70) in the proximal end section (63) exposing a catheter lumen (64, 65) and forming first and second tails (72, 74) having inner (78, 80, 84, 86), outer (82, 88), and peripheral (79, 81, 81', 85, 87, 87') engaging surfaces. Another method (100) secures catheter tails (72, 74) disposed between operatively coupled first and second connectors (20, 40), the first connector (20) having a distal insert (22) inserted into the exposed catheter lumen (64, 65) and a catheter engaging body (31) about which the catheter tails (72, 74) are disposed, and the second connector (20) having a catheter engaging body (53) disposed about the catheter tails (72, 74), wherein the connectors (20, 40) are configured (33, 52) to be operatively coupled to each other and to operatively couple the catheter tails (72, 74) disposed between the catheter engaging bodies (31, 53) of the first and second connectors (20, 40).
