PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of taking a composite image by one or two or more image compositing methods by performing photographing operation once, and a photographing method. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus 100 includes: a first CPU 128 which acquires the result of photometry of a subject and the focal distance information of a lens and decides the number of photographic images when performing the photographing operation once and exposure time per photographic image based on the result of photometry and the focal distance information which are acquired; and a CCD element 108 taking a plurality of images by performing photographing operation once based on the number of photographic images and the exposure time per photographic image which are decided by the first CPU 128.
