PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain fuel consumption and noise by increasing a using opportunity of an energy-saving mode by enhancing the convenience of the energy-saving mode, by detecting an increase and a decrease in work load by a means except for a pressure change in a main circuit, in a construction machine for controlling a normal mode and the energy-saving mode so as to be switchable. SOLUTION: This construction machine controls an engine speed to the normal mode of a high rotation area and the energy-saving mode of a low rotation area so as to be switchable, and has a vehicle speed sensor 15 detecting a vehicle speed, an ECM 12 controlling the engine speed of an engine 11, and an in-vehicle controller 13 switching the engine speed to either of the normal mode and the energy-saving mode by sending a command signal to the ECM 12 on the basis of a detecting value of the vehicle speed sensor 15. When the vehicle speed varies and reduces larger than a predetermined range by the work load in the energy-saving mode, the in-vehicle controller 13 commands the ECM 12 to switch the engine speed to the normal mode.
