<p>The invention concerns a method whereby a ring (13) is inserted and swaged using a progressive stamping die (22) in a sequence of cutting and crimping operations (27, 28, 29), and including a step (31) of inserting and pre-crimping the ring and a separate final crimping step (33). The progressive stamping die (22) comprises means (4) for conveying and positioning the rings, guiding means (5) for axially guiding each ring, inserting means (6), sliding axially around the guiding means to introduce the ring in the hole of the part, and co-operating with the pre-crimping means (7) coaxially located facing the inserting means, to flare out the edge (15a) of the ring after it has passed through the hole, and crimping means (9), located downstream, in the moving direction of the sheet metal strip, of the guiding, the inserting and the pre-crimping means, to cause the ring to be completely crimped on the part.</p> |
