CHANNEL NUMBER CONVERTING CIRCUIT USED FOR SOUND REPRODUCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a channel number converting circuit capable of reproducing an original surround sound from signals of channels less than the number of channels of a multi-channel surround sound.

SOLUTION: When a recorder which records three sound signals C, Ls, Rsis set to a reproduction VTR 10, the reproduction VTR 10 reads these three sound signals C, Ls, Rs. A 3ch-5ch converting circuit 6 inputs the sound signals C, Ls, Rs, generates other sound signals L, R by a formula (2) and outputs original 5-channel surround sound signals C, Ls, Rs, L, R. Namely, the 3ch-5ch converting circuit 6 converts 3-channel sound signals to 5-channel sound signals. Thus, a reproducing device 11 is capable of restoring 3-channel sound signals recorded during sound collection into original 5-channel surround sound signals during reproduction.
