摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a time necessary for preheating a catalyst in starting, and to reduce operation cost by reducing energy usage in operation. <P>SOLUTION: This gas treatment device comprises a catalyst layer 5 through which a treated mixture gas 12 obtained by mixing a treated gas 10 and air 11 is circulated to be oxidized to generate an oxidative decomposition gas 13, a preheating heater 4 disposed at the upstream side of the catalyst layer 5 and heating the air 11 to heat the treated mixture gas 12 to be higher than an activation temperature of the catalyst layer 5, an air supply damper 7 as a refluxing means and a refluxing passage 6 for refluxing the oxidative decomposition gas 13 generated by the catalyst layer 5 to the upstream side of the preheating heater 4. In preheating, the treated mixture gas 12 including the treated gas 10 is not supplied to the catalyst layer 5, only the air 11 is allowed to flow to the catalyst layer 5, and the air 11 passing through the catalyst layer 5 is fully refluxed without being discharged to the outside by functions of the air supply damper 7 and the refluxing passage 6.
