PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrifying roll for applying DC voltage capable of coping with the speeding-up of a copying machine, and preventing irregular electrification in a DC electrifying system, so that an excellent image is obtained. SOLUTION: The electrifying roll for applying DC voltage is constituted by forming an elastic body layer 2 on the outer peripheral surface of a shaft body 1, and forming a surface layer 4 on the outer periphery of the elastic body layer directly or through a resistance adjusting layer 3 or the like, and is set to satisfy following characteristics (A) and (B). (A) The current value of the surface of the roll obtained before the surface layer 4 is formed when applying -100V is within 300 to 10,000μA. (B) Relation between the current value (a) of the surface of the roll obtained before the surface layer 4 is formed and the current value (b) of the surface of the electrifying roll obtained after the surface layer 4 is formed when applying -100V satisfies a/b≥3.
