PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately determine a Wiebe function parameter for expressing a heat generation pattern in a cylinder of an internal combustion engine regarding a determination method and a determination device for a Wiebe function parameter. SOLUTION: In the determination method of the Wiebe function parameter, upon determining the Wiebe function parameter expressed by formula (I) (here, Q[J]:heat generation amount in the cylinder of the internal combustion engine; Q<SB>total</SB>[J]: calorific value of fuel supplied to the cylinder;θ[degCA]: elapsed crank angle after start of heat generation;θ<SB>p</SB>[degCA]: combustion period; m: shape parameter; and k: efficiency), an actual combustion rateαat a crank angle where the actual heat generation rate is the maximum in the cylinder of the internal combustion engine.
