PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus for attaining smooth mode switching between a moving picture recording mode and a still picture recording mode. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus for switching among the moving picture recording mode, the still picture recording mode, and a reproduction mode for executing reproduction of recorded data includes: a recording changeover switch configured with, e.g. a toggle button for executing only the switching between the moving picture recording mode and the still picture recording mode; and a reproduction mode setting switch exclusively for shift to / release from the reproduction mode. Through the configuration above, the shift processing between the still picture recording mode and the moving picture recording mode is attained by operating the recording changeover switch, not via the reproduction mode, so that the power supply of an imaging section is left turned on and the imaging can immediately be started after the mode switching.
