A reaction turbine system for low-head hydro and tidal power is disclosed. T he system consists of multiple Darrieus type turbine sections attached in series along a single horizontal rotating shaft. The Darrieus blades are long, rectangular, perpendicular to fluid flow and have an airfoil shaped cross-section. The blades in each Darrieus section are offset from the blades in the other sections. This greatly reduces the torque pulsation typical of a Darrieus turbine while keeping the simplicity of straight airfoil blades, the ability to generate power fro m multiple fluid flow directions and a high rotational speed. Such a system can be used in open bi - directional flowing water found in tidal areas or enclosed in one or more fluid flow ducts to efficiently generate low-cost power from a low-head hydro site.
