Hot moulded munitions explosives using a - thermoplastic binder

The explosive particles (I) contain a plasticised binder (II) of polyvinyl acetate, acrylic esters of cellulose acetate, which have no acid combustion products. (I) are based on nitrocellulose and are not graphite coated. (II) comprises at least 1.2% of the explosive. It is difficult to obtain known moulded explosives of the correct size, whereas the present explosive is easily mouldable to dimensionally stable shapes, by a rapid process suitable for bulk prodn. The hot moulding process is less dangerous than known cold moulding processes.
