<p>An inlet device 2 to a separator 1 comprises a substantially tubular outer wall 5 and a substantially tubular inner wall 6. The outer wall 5 and inner wall 6 define between them a first annular path 7, with an inlet opening 8 feeding fluid to be separated through the outer wall 5 into the first annular path 7. There is further provided at least one communication channel 4 for the passage of fluid from the first annular path 7 into a second annular path 9 located inside the inner tubular wall 6. The inlet device 2 is characterised in that it provides one or more movable closing means 3 for at least partial closure of the at least one communication channel 4, wherein said closing means 3 is arranged for movement in the axial direction of the inlet device 2. The separator 1 is to be used to separate fluids having two or more phases, e.g. oil-water/ water-oil emulsions, and mixtures. A method of controlling the introduction of fluid into a separator 1 via the inlet device 2 is also claimed.</p> |
