1280390 Combustible gas mixtures TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 17 Nov 1970 [21 Nov 1969] 54595/70 Heading C5E Synthesis gas for oxo and Fischer-Tropsch processes is made from a H 2 , CO gas mixture 6 by reacting the mixture with either CO 2 or H 2 O in a non-catalytic shift converter 70 or 72 at a temperature of at least 1500‹ F. to produce a gas stream 15, 37 the mole ratio CO/H 2 of which is greater (15) or less (37) than that of the mixture 6. The Figure illustrates a process for the simultaneous production of both streams, the feed 2 being refinery gas. The valves 7, 8 permit either limb of the Figure to be put out of use. In an example in which only stream. 37 is made, vacuum residuum 2 is gasified at 1, and the effluent passed in series through two non- catalytic shift converters each supplied with oxygen and steam, and two or more converters 70 may be provided in a process in which only stream 15 is made, supplemental O 2 and CO 2 being provided. The feed 2 may be gaseous, liquid or solid, e.g. coal or petroleum coke. |
