1,205,789. Printing ink compositions. UNION CARBIDE CORP. 4 Oct., 1967 [4 Oct., 1966], No. 45307/67. Heading C3P. [Also in Division D1] Printing ink compositions comprise from 3.3 to 30% by weight of an ammonium and/or alkali metal salt of a copolymer of an ethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic acid and an α-olefin; from 5 to 50% by weight of pigment; and water. The compositions may also include up to 40% by weight of a C 1 -C 4 aliphatic alcohol. The olefin component of the copolymer preferably has 2-10 carbon atoms, and the unsaturated acid component preferably 3-8 carbon atoms, e.g. acrylic acid, methacrylic acid or ethacrylic acid. The copolymer may also contain an additional component, e.g. an alkyl acrylate or methacrylate, vinyl acetate, or a vinyl or vinylidene halide. Pigments specified are clay, diatomite, barium sulphate, calcium carbonate, magnesium carbonate, lithopone, titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, white lead, carbon black, iron blues, ultramarine blue, chrome yellow, red, orange or green, cadmium yellow or red, molybdate orange, azo pigments, Hansa yellows, triphenylmethane derivatives and phthalocyanine pigments. Thickeners such as polyethylene glycol ethers may be included in the compositions if desired, and also an anti-foam agent such as octanol. |
