1,161,162. Glass fibre-filled copolymer compositions. DOW CHEMICAL CO. 28 Feb., 1967 [3 March, 1966], No. 9533/67. Headings C3G and C3P. A glass fibre-filled composition comprises 40 to 15% by weight of glass fibres having a length of less than 1À5 inches and 60 to 85% of a copolymer of (a) an olefin containing 2 or 3 carbon atoms and (b) an α, #-monoethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic acid said copolymer containing at least 80% of olefin (a). The copolymer may be a graft polymer formed by grafting monomer (b) on to a polyolefin in solution or in powder form, using a peroxide or ionizing radiation as initiator. In examples, glass fibres are blended with (1) an ethyleneacrylic acid copolymer, (2) polyethylene grafted with acrylic acid and (3) polypropylene grafted with acrylic acid. |
