A holder and a surface light source device and a backlight assembly having the same are provided to convect the heat and the light generated at the source light source device in the divided plural convection spaces. A holder member supports a portion of a light source for generating the light beam. A convection inhibiting member(13) is extended from the holder member along the light source so that plural convection spaces are formed on the surface of the light source. The holder member includes the first holder member(11a) connected with a side of the convection inhibiting member and the second holder member(11b) connected with the other side of the convection inhibiting member. The convection inhibiting member has a wall shape and plural convection inhibiting members are separately connected with the first and second holder members. The convection inhibiting member also has a lattice shape.
