METHOD FOR PERFORMING THE BAKCUP OF THE META INFORMATION AND APPARATUS THEREOF

A method and a method for backing up metadata are provided to guarantee reliability of data stored in disk drives by backing up the metadata to the disk drives in a hardware mode and recovering the backup metadata if necessary. A file system determiner(200) determines an active partition when the disk drive is powered on and determines a file system type of the detected partition. A meta detector(230) detects a position of an area storing the metadata by using the determined file system type. A meta backup part(240) backs up the data of an area storing the metadata to a predetermined area of a disk(220). An error determiner(250) determines whether the metadata is damaged by scanning the area storing the metadata during an idle mode of the disk drive. A meta recoverer(260) restores the metadata by reading the backup data from the disk area if the metadata is damaged.
