The invention relates to a method for producing crystals containing hydrated aluminum oxide, whereby a liquid hydrated aluminum oxide phase is brought into contact with an auxiliary agent phase containing an organic auxiliary agent having at least one of the following properties: (A) a cloud point ranging from 40 to 80 DEGREE C; (B) a viscosity ranging from 100 to 1000 mPa*s, (C) an HLB value ranging from 1 to 19; (D) an OH number ranging from 50 to 250 mgKOH/g; (E) a solidification point lower than 10 DEGREE C, and, (F) a flash point of > 70 DEGREE C in accordance with DIN 51758. The invention also relates to crystals containing aluminum hydrate, which can be obtained by using said method, to a composition containing an aluminum hydrate phase, and to the use of crystals containing aluminum hydrate and of aluminum hydrate phases.
