A broadcasting receiving apparatus and a method therefor are provided to confirm a viewing frequency of a channel viewed for a uniform time or more and the latest viewed channel and offer a set preference channel to a user in a pop-up window type. A signal receiving unit(120) tunes a certain channel and receives a broadcasting signal. A signal processing unit(180) processes and outputs the broadcasting signal received through the signal receiving unit(120). A timer(130) measures a viewing time of the channel tuned by the signal receiving unit(120). A generating unit(160) recognizes a channel in which the viewing time has the first threshold value or more as a preference channel, and generates a preference channel list for the preference channel. A display unit(190) displays the preference channel list. An input unit(110) receives a hot-key signal for displaying the preference channel list. If the hot-key signal is received, a control unit(170) controls the display unit(190) to display the preference channel list in a pop-up window type.
