A device and a method for installing software are provided to selectively install only the software corresponding to a model of each computer by storing the software to different partitions according to property and installation type of the software. A software storing part(110) stores the software to a plurality of partitions according to a software type. A software selector(130) selects the desired software among the stored software. A controller(140) extracts the selected software from the partition for storing the software and installs the extracted software to the predetermined partition of the software storing part. An external device connector(120) is connected to an external device for transferring a list of the software selected in the software selector or transferring the software list received through the network to the software selector.
