A moving load, such as a railway wagon or crane load, is weighed in the presence of disturbing oscillations by sensing and storing at least two successive extreme values (one maximum and one minimum) of the load cell output signal and combining the extreme values to give an indication of the weight. If damping can be neglected, two successive extreme values are merely added to give a signal proportional to the weight. If damping is allowed for, three successive extreme values Y 1 , Y 2 , Y 3 are sensed and stored and a signal proportional to the weight is derived by dividing the difference between Y 1 times Y 3 and the square of Y 2 by Y 1 + Y 3 - 2Y 2 . |
