1307741 Grippers for lifting pipes EPITESTUDOMANYI INTEZET 8 May 1970 [10 May 1969] 22332/70 Heading B8H [Also in Division F2] An apparatus for lifting pipes is inserted in a pipe, and, as shown, a hand wheel 9 is screwed on threads 8 and forces a disc 3 axially along a shaft 1 to compress a sealing ring 5 against a tapered surface 4 of a wedge 2 secured to the shaft and thus force the sealing ring radially outwards into sealing engagement with the inner wall of the pipe. A stirrup, shown on the right in the drawing, is provided on the shaft 1 to enable the pipe to be lifted, Fig. 6 (not shown), by means of a suitable lifting hook. The apparatus may alternatively be operated by pneumatic remote control, Fig. 1 (not shown), the space between the disk 3 and wedge 2 being connected to a low pressure source. The apparatus has further uses in sealing and coupling pipes (see Division F2). |
