A washing machine is provided to prevent a safety accident by stopping the operation of the washing machine if a pet or an infant is detected in the washing machine. A washing machine includes an outer tub(210), an inner tub(220), and a door(230). Washing water is stored in the outer tub. Laundry articles are stored in the inner tub. The door is installed between the inner tub and the outer tub to introduce and discharge the laundry articles. The washing machine includes a living body detection unit. The living body detection unit is mounted to the upper side of the outer tub to detect an animal in the outer tub or the inner tub and detects an animal in a dead angle region of a user through the door. |
