Provided is a carbonaceous electrode material for a secondary battery, which minimizes swelling of an anode during repeated charge/discharge cycles, and imparts excellent cycle characteristics and charge/discharge efficiency to a battery. The carbonaceous electrode material for a secondary battery comprises: a core carbonaceous material formed of high crystalline graphite; and a surface coating layer coated on the core carbonaceous material, wherein the surface coating layer is formed from a mixture of a shape-controlled metallic material with pitch as an amorphous carbonaceous material, and is provided in such a manner that the surface of the core carbonaceous material has a low crystalline structure.
