A method and a system for providing sound source information according to a caller's request in a state of providing a ring-back tone substitute sound service are provided to effectively provide information on a ring-back tone substitute sound source to a user in a ring-back tone service utilizing a multimedia codec. Upon receiving a request for a voice call from an origination terminal(110), a mobile communication network(120) establishes a speech path with the origination terminal(110), and when a destination terminal(112) has been subscribed to a ring-back tone substitute sound service, the mobile communication network(120) sets a ring-back tone call and transmits a ring-back tone substitute sound to the origination terminal(110), generates an ISUP(ISDN User Part) message by using a digit message received from the origination terminal(110), generates a call back short message including information on the ring-back tone substitute sound source, and transmits it to the origination terminal(110).
