The apparatus has a master cylinder (M/C) and a wheel cylinder (W/C) provided for a vehicle wheel. Hydraulic actuators (HU1, HU2) are provided separately from the master cylinder and adjust a hydraulic pressure of the wheel cylinder. The hydraulic actuators are driven by two sub electronic control units (ECU) (100, 200) on the basis of a command from a main ECU (300). Control units (CU1 - CU6) control the hydraulic actuator on the basis of a brake operating amount by a driver. The main ECU computes the target hydraulic pressure and the coordinated control with the other control units. An independent claim is also included for a method for performing computation of a target hydraulic pressure of a wheel cylinder.
