<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the practical use of a steering system having a locking device. <P>SOLUTION: The steering system is equipped with a shaft body rotation prohibition device 120 which can prohibit the rotation of the shaft body by changing the contacting state of a shaft body 44 which is a component of a steering force transmission device for transmitting a steering force applied to a steering operation member to a steered device with a friction member 126 generating a friction force to be the resistance of the rotation of the shaft body 44 to a large friction state that the friction force becomes large by an actuator 124. Specifically, the friction member 126 is made to be a belt-like member wrapped around the shaft body 44, one end 144 of the friction member 126 is displaced by the actuator 124, and the rotation of the shaft body 44 is prohibited by being turned into a large friction state by fastening the shaft body 44.
