PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a prism unit which can more firmly join two optical base materials by using an adhesive without affecting a video and to provide a manufacturing method of the prism unit. SOLUTION: In the prism unit which is constituted by joining two optical base materials at each joining surface having inclination in a thickness direction, a pair of recessed parts are formed on the joining surfaces in a direction opposite to a direction different from a two optical base materials joining direction, that is in a direction intersecting the joining surface.
