PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sliding member lifetime diagnostic system and a sliding member lifetime diagnostic method that readily allow diagnosis of the lifetime of a sliding member. SOLUTION: A CCD camera 2 connected to the sliding member lifetime diagnostic system 1 photographs a sliding surface of a sliding member 7 in use, successively in a time series and transmits a plurality of photographic images successively to a computer 3. A diagnostic application 42 resolves the transmitted photograph into RGB values, creates a histogram for each RGB component, and determines the standard deviation for the created histogram. The diagnostic application 42 keeps track of the temporal changes in the standard deviation and diagnoses that the sliding member has reached its lifetime, when temporal changes in the standard deviation has shifted from a stationary state to a non-stationary state.
