PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasonic flaw detection method which enables an execution of the accurate flaw detection of a region where a padding configuration is complicated like the welding part of the pipe allowed to pierce an inspection target at a certain angle, and an ultrasonic flaw detector. SOLUTION: The arrangement direction of the vibrators in a probe 1 is set to the radial direction centering the pipe axis of a pipe 2 while keeping the intervals between the probe 1, the inspection target 5 and the pipe 2 almost constant and the surface configurational data of the inspection target 5 is acquired by the ultrasonic waves preliminarily emitted from a plurality of the respective vibrators to be stored in a memory means. The delay times of ultrasonic waves emitted toward the inspection target 5 from a plurality of the respective vibrators are controlled on the basis of the stored surface configuration of the inspection target 5 to converge the ultrasonic waves to a predetermined position in the inspection target 5 to perform flaw detection in the circumferential direction of the pipe 2.
