PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air compressor capable of efficiently discharging drain in response to a fluctuation of a discharge air amount. SOLUTION: In an air compressor equipped with a compressor body 2 for compressing air, with an electric motor 3 for driving the compressor body 2, with an inverter 4 for variably controlling the engine rotation speed of the electric motor 3, with a refrigerating type air dryer 7 for separating drain in the air discharged from the compressor body 2 and with a drain discharge valve 11 which can discharge the drain separated by the refrigerating type air dryer 7, a controller 9 computes and integrates operation load factors of the compressor body 2 on the basis of the rotation speed of the electric motor 3 or corresponding parameter so as to actuate the drain discharge valve 11 when an integrated value of the operation load factor reaches the threshold value.
