<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a technique that automatically perform age confirmation during the transaction processing of self-service. <P>SOLUTION: When an age-restricted product presented for purchase is identified, indication for an identification document of the purchaser is requested. From the document, coded information is read out, and a photograph of the purchaser obtained from the document is examined. Also the image of the purchaser is captured. The date of birth of the purchaser coded on the document is evaluated, and the captured image of the purchaser is compared with the photographic image of the purchaser. It is shown that the date of birth of the purchaser is in agreement with the age prerequisite for purchasing, and when the captured image of the purchaser matches the photograph, purchasing is permitted. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
